"Forty Weird Years of Animal Mutilations"

Originally posted January 1st, 2000

ETs, ABEs UFOs, MIBs, FEDs, They're All Here

July, 1975; NORAD, Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado:

The Eagles, Loggins and Messina and the new sounds of Disco could be heard on the car radios of the employees of NORAD as they made their way through narrow canyons for the morning shift within this super secret, underground guardian of North American airspace. The cold war is still almost hot, men are still wearing long sideburns, women are still wearing bellbottom trousers and the Colorado Rockies are still standing, indifferent to these musings. At the entrance to NORAD lies a carcass of a 1000 plus lb. cow. It has been disfigured in the most perverted way. This is way out of place. It has no business being there. It is quickly removed and only then, closely examined.

In the previous month the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, just north of NORAD, grieved the loss of a 1500 lb. female buffalo. The keepers were horrified to find this bovine deceased and missing an udder, an ear and four square feet of hide. Most disturbing was that her vagina had been cut out. ‘Cut out’ is not accurate, excised surgically is the better way to describe this shocking thing. And that is just how the El Paso County Coroner Dr. Raoul W. Urich alluded to this. “The dissection was of a type that would eliminate any type of predator,” he said. This does not leave room for much else in the methods of organ removal.

The NORAD incident was real, the cow was ‘mutilated’ and the criminals who did this have not been brought to justice. The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo incident was real. Both of these true historical events were abnormal in an abnormal genre’. Both enterprises employ security. No one saw anything. NORAD does not raise cattle. The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is not a ranch or a farm in the traditional sense. Could there be a message here?

Historical Perspective

Alamosa, Colorado -- September, 1967-- A filly -- a young female horse-- named “Lady” was found dead and stripped (flayed) of skin and fur from the neck upwards. Pathologist Dr. John Altshuler ,who coined the word ‘excise’, found that the animal's brain, spine and organs in the chest area, including the heart had been removed. He was stunned to find the animal's blood had been drained and there were no signs of this blood in situ ( on location and in context). This discovery coincided with a rash of UFO sightings in the San Luis Valley and signaled the beginning of the phenomenon known henceforth as ‘cattle mutilations’. Most researchers believe this was the first documented incident of this disgusting practice, albeit on a horse, though there is some evidence this has been occurring since the 1950’s -- see Col. Corso’s book..

By the 1970s the frequency of these animal mutilations had increased to the point that Linda M. Howe, then employed as an environmental reporter for a Denver television station, began to investigate these bizarre happenings. That was a time when some 200 mutilations had been reported over an 18 month period in two Colorado counties. This ultimately led to her 1980 Emmy Award winning documentary, “Strange Harvest”. Clearly, she is the number one researcher and writer in this field. As far as I'm concerned no one else even comes close.

Current Perspectives

The most reliable numbers today indicate that there have been as many as 10,000 reported cases of animal mutilations worldwide. From this number certain consistencies become known. Here is a partial list of commonly reported factors associated with animal mutilations.

Forensic Findings

Most of these events involve horses, cows, sheep, goats, domestic pets, and -- oddly -- humans. The examining pathologists and observers note the following; Excisions of the rectum, navel, eyes, vagina and the sexual organs. They appear to have been ‘cored’ out with some type of highly sophisticated instrument.

Complete removal and absence of the ears, testicles, tongue and most strangely the blood. Anyone who has ever slaughtered a large animal knows the amount of body fluids which spill to the ground, on the animal, and on the butcher. This cannot be avoided and is virtually impossible to clean up in the field. The absence of blood could indicate that the animal is first executed and then subjected to these ghastly procedures.

Fractured bones are often found. Various fractures located in the animal's legs are common. They are consistent with compression injuries usually demonstrated with the mechanics and results of a fall.

Microscopic examinations reveal evidence of cutting tools which use heat as their primary incisor. Today's laser would be an example of this, although in order to duplicate the supreme accuracy of these wounds you would have to transport some pretty bulky and heavy machinery to these pastures. It should be noted that the investigators of the microscopic evidence indicate that these lesions are consistent with electro-surgical excision.

In Dec. 1996 the results of a gas chromatography test performed on a ‘mutilated cow’ were released. These tests were commissioned by the Criminal Investigations Division in Fort Pierce, Florida. Unusual compounds were found in the liver and aortic blood. They found Furaltedone (an anti-bacterial compound), Oxipronolol (a beta blocker), and Amfetamipil ( a psychotropic drug). This suggests some type of human intervention.

Some of the animals have also been found to have orange fluorescent paint, visible only under ultraviolet light, on their hides. Hmmm, that is rather odd.

Witness Reports of Aerial Phenomenon

Within the time frame of these animal mutilations, residents of the immediate vicinity often report strange goings on in the skies above their farms and villages. They include observations of black noiseless helicopters with opaque windows, silent glowing orange objects, UFOs the size of football fields hovering above the pastures where the incidents have occurred, and beams of light being projected from these objects onto the fields and pastures. There have been reports of strange depressions left in the fields which are somewhat reminiscent of landing gear which one might find on exotic spacecraft designed by sci-fi writers.

Scene Anomalies

Probably the most amazing aspect of the scene is that the carcasses of the animals are left in plain view. There is no evidence that an attempt is made to hide the bodies. In my view this is really stinky. It has the odor of intention on it. Both the NORAD and the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo examples are particularly sinister in this way. Why do this? If these mutilations are being accomplished with the aid of helicopters, why not just dispose of the carcasses in secret? This leads some researchers to conclude that the presence of helicopters is secondary to the primary mission., whatever that is. Perhaps the occupants of the helicopters are merely helpless observers?

The lack of physical evidence of ground transportation at the scene of these ghoulish incidents is quite a mystery. No tire tracks, no footprints, no drag marks, nothing at all which would indicate simple drunken vandalism by the bored local folks. The animals always appear to have just been dropped from the sky. Sometimes the animals are found beneath trees, the branches above being downwardly broken. The snow around these carcasses is pristine, no tracks of any kind. Even the natural habits of coyotes have been altered. Ranchers have observed coyotes actually avoiding these carcasses. That is remarkably strange. The lives of these animals often depend on the easy opportunity presented by scavenging these carcasses.

Some witnesses report that MIBs enter the scene for a short period of time, make threats and do other typical MIB things. Pesky varmits, these faceless creatures.

What Is Going On Here?

Well, there have been lots of speculation about what this is all about. They range from the standard ET Hybrid experiments stuff to a connection to ABEs (Anomalous Biological Entities) such as the Mexican, Puerto Rican and Central American “Chupacabras”, which some claim to be hybrid mistakes.

Some folks have suggested some sort of Satanic Cult relationship to these matters. This has all but been completely ruled out due to the fact that there have been undercover agents within these cells which have simply said “nope, it ain't happening on this end”.

There are researchers who have drawn a connection to the U.S. Military and biological warfare testing. These investigators at least have documents and some interviews to support their hypothesis.

During hypnotic sessions some Abductees have reported watching the surgical operations of cattle and other animals while within an Alien Craft. Their memories support the idea that the ETs are harvesting a certain enzyme which they require and can no longer naturally produce. The enzyme(s) are needed for digestive reasons.

There is a least one credible eye witness account of a rancher and his wife watching some strange goings on in one of their pastures. They observed a light being projected from a hovering craft and the levitation of one of their cows into the craft. Spooky!

In other words, take your pick. Whatever you happen to be biased in favor of has about as much provability as the thing you reject. Except one thing!

The Ex-FBI Agent and Predators

Clear back in 1980 Ex-FBI Agent Ken Rommel finished and released a report entitled “Operation Cattle Mutilations”. This report was paid for by a grant from the local District Attorney's office. His conclusions were that these fatal injuries are caused by predators. Unfortunately his conclusions went far beyond the predator theory and in my view has discredited his finding completely and forever. This is because he immediately began to belittle and insult all witnesses, observers, and researchers -- particuarly Linda Mouton Howe -- by referring to their reports and writings as “garbage’ and other non-professional descriptive. Whenever a person uses the tactic of discrediting and attacking opposing conclusions by the use of insults and hubris then I have a tendency to disbelieve their motivations and sincerity. Mr. Rommel’s FBI career was financed with taxpayer money and upon retirement his “Operation Cattle Mutilations” report was financed with taxpayer money. I have no problem with this per say but I just can't stand the arrogance that these types of people have for their ‘private’ counterparts such as Linda M. Howe. Once again we have the authority's version of events completely at opposites with the common citizen's version. It is not enough that the weight of Mr. Rommel’s evidence formed his conclusions, he must also denigrate the facts as related by any and all private citizen's research. This is a pattern and is not new to investigations of the mysterious or of the paranormal. So be it.

Conclusion

As recently as September of 1999, reports of cattle mutilations have come from Nevada and South Dakota. Photographs, Veterinary post mortem reports, and troubling witness interviews support these claims and accompany the research into these incidents. They can be viewed at www.earthfiles.com, Linda Mouton Howe’s site. Take a look for yourself and draw your own conclusions. If you have not seen any of these photos, be prepared for a shock.

These matters are real, they are disgusting and they are frightful. Whoever or whatever is involved seems to enjoy celebrating Halloween at random moments throughout the year. It would be good fun to think of these events as a kind of benign ‘Trick or
Treat’. I think not. My own instincts tell me to be afraid, be very afraid -- just kidding, and ponder these Pastures of Mystery. They may contain the horrid remains of a very hard truth.
